After upgrading to the latest 15.7.8 build (24G824, July 27, 2026) from the previous 15.7.8 beta build, macOS no longer natively mounts external NTFS drives on M4 MBA 15".
Before that it still worked on the previous 15.7.8 build.
Diskutil sees the disk, but does not mount the volume.
Feels like a bug. Anyone else experiencing this?

Well you did help me narrow down the problem.
Since it had to be some extension I had a look at all of them. As any external device was blocked, whatever the format, I became suspicious about ESET which has a external device blocking option. I uninstalled it and problem was gone ! Reinstalling ESET and problem was still gone.
So in my case, unfortunately the culprit was ESET. I can already feel all the shoes thrown at my head for installing another firewall product, but I'll live with that blame bestowed upon me by purists and Apple patriots ;-)

As you should know macOS has never supported NTFS drives except for read-only mode. Users must install a third party package to support NTFS read/write capabilities. Which one are you using? Have you contacted that developer?
At this time you are the only one reporting this issue. You might try restarting your MacBook Air in safe mode which sometimes clears glitches.

I know, I'm only talking about read-only mode.
Starting in safe mode it works.
I have a bootable backup disk, in encrypted APFS. However I cannot boot from it because for some weird reason it does not accept the decryption password. In safe mode it does. So, I cannot even restore from the backup I have (which runs the previous build) :(
If the feature works in Safe Mode then there's interference from third party code somewhere. Try creating a new user account and test if things are working in normal mode in that account. If things work then that narrows it down to something in your main account, not macOS.
The latest update fixed something like 75 security issues. Its did not add any new features.
Your profile indicates you have a M4 MacBookAir. Have you considered updating to macOS 26.6 Tahoe? Is there something keeping you from updating?
Same problem exist with a new user account :(
It is also not NTFS related. Even external APFS volumes don't mount.
I decided to skip macOS 26. Mainly interface reasons. We'll see with 27.

Good detective work and process of elimination. That things worked in Safe Mode pointed directly to third party code.
