Mac Studio M4 Max & Studio Display wake from sleep

I have a 2025 Mac Studio connected directly to an Apple Studio Display using the original Thunderbolt cable.

Mac Studio configuration:

• Apple M4 Max chip

• 14-core CPU

• 32-core GPU

• 16-core Neural Engine

• 36GB unified memory

• 2TB SSD storage

Studio Display configuration:

• Purchased in 2025

• Standard glass

• Tilt-adjustable stand

When I select Sleep, the Mac Studio and Studio Display will sometimes briefly go to sleep and then immediately jolt back awake without me touching the keyboard or mouse. The Studio Display turns back on, and the Mac returns to the desktop screen.

It does not happen every time, and the issue seems mostly random. After putting it to sleep a few more times, it will eventually stay asleep.

This has been happening since the first week I bought the Mac Studio. I have been going back and forth with Apple Support since March with no resolution. I have been to the Apple Store at least six times, completely reset the original computer, and tested it with a hardwired mouse and keyboard to rule out Bluetooth accessories waking it.

Apple eventually replaced the Mac Studio, but the exact same issue still occurs with the replacement computer. At this point, no one at the Apple Store seems to know what is causing it. The case has also been reviewed by Apple’s engineers, but they either cannot identify the problem or have not been able to fix it.

This is extremely disappointing. When purchasing a Mac Studio and Apple Studio Display together, especially at this price point, I would expect Apple’s own computer and display to work correctly with each other. Sleep is a basic function, and I should not have to repeatedly put a new computer to sleep or spend months troubleshooting an issue Apple cannot explain.

I’m now wondering whether this problem is universal for people using this combination, or if it is somehow isolated to my setup. If you have a 2025 M4 Max Mac Studio connected to an Apple Studio Display with standard glass, does your computer consistently remain asleep on the first attempt?

My next step is to purchase a non-Apple monitor and test it with the replacement Mac Studio. If the issue stops with another monitor, it would strongly suggest there is some type of hardware or software compatibility issue involving the M4 Max Mac Studio and Apple Studio Display combination.

I would especially like to hear from anyone using this exact configuration, whether you are experiencing the problem or everything is working normally.
