Installing old Samsung printer drivers on latest macOS

There is no drivers available for the latest (for now Tahoe 26.5) macOS for old Samsung printers.

There was universal driver that worked for ML-1600, ML-1800 (1865) series and many other Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 for OS X - Apple Support. And according to this Samsung ML-1860 and latest MacOS - Apple Community thread that driver is still working fine except you cant easily install it because of OS version limitations in installer.

To deal with this I've unpacked it using manual. Removed version checks (edited Distribution file with in text editor and added "return true;" on lines 31 and 47). And repacked it again. After that installation went without any troubles.

Got mine ML-1865 working again without any additional software needed.

If you're not familiar with terminal drop a comment and I'll upload repacked version somewhere (if it's not against community rules).

The step by step instruction:

  1. Extract SamsungPrinterDrivers.pkg from SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg. Just drag and drop it to any folder, for example Desktop.
  2. Open terminal, Iterm2 or any other shell.
  3. Extract package contents via console command.
pkgutil --expand ~/Desktop/SamsungPrinterDrivers.pkg ~/Desktop/SamsungPrinterDrivers

4. Open with text editor SamsungPrinterDrivers/Distribution (for example BBEdit as suggested earlier).

5. Add new line after opening bracket on line 30 and write "return true;" there.

6. Add new line after opening bracket on line 47 and write "return true;" there.

7. Pack new package.

pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/SamsungPrinterDrivers ~/Desktop/UpdatedSamsungPrinterDrivers.pkg

8. Install new drivers.
