The modem firmware on an iPhone is the software that controls the cellular modem/baseband chip (responsible for mobile network, SIM/eSIM, calls, SMS, and cellular data). If the Modem Firmware field becomes blank or disappear sunder Settings → General → About, it usually indicates a problem with the baseband subsystem.

  • Check Settings → General → VPN & Device Management for any unknown profiles.
  • Check whether IMEI is still displayed in Settings → General → About.
  • Dial *#06# (if possible) to see if the IMEI appears.

If IMEI is missing along with Modem Firmware, it almost always points to a baseband communication failure with the logic board, not jailbreak or MDM. If IMEI is present but Modem Firmware is blank, a corrupted modem firmware installation is more plausible.

It happened in an iPhone 13 I got around a week ago, last Saturday. The next day, it couldn’t find my mobile network and was saying searching. I took it to the store I got it from for a quick check and the service guy said he didn’t know what the problem was. He gave me a new one, but I’m worried it might happen again. Just want to avoid any past mistakes
