Screen activates after touch is turned off

Take iPhone 17e on a gravel bike ride. Listen to music or a book. Turn off everything in Accessibility/Touch but Reachability.

Expected: Screen should not activate during ride.

Results: Screen activates and randomly accesses various applications.

If, guided access is used. The screen will activate and then randomly press/select, volume up/down, rewind, fast-forward, or pause.

When not riding, I can also activate the screen by shaking or rubbing my fingers along the edge.

Gravel bike vibrations mimic capacitive touch inputs and trigger the accelerometer/gyroscope. This wakes the display and registers phantom touches or accessibility shortcut commands (like volume or media control). To fix this, disable Raise to Wake, turn off Reachability, and use a fully enclosed secure pocket or top-tube bag instead of exposing the screen to handlebar vibrations

Try this

Disable Raise to Wake: Go to Settings > Display & Brightness and turn off Raise to Wake so physical motion stops waking the panel

Turn Off Reachability: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch and toggle off Reachability to prevent edge-swiping gestures from activating.

Lock the Screen Manually: Press the side button to put the phone to sleep before placing it in your pocket or bag.

Use a Secure Storage Spot: Keep the phone deep inside a zippered jersey pocket or a padded frame bag where it cannot bounce against hard objects or catch wind/fabric friction on the glass.

Turned off the Raise to Wake and the Touch and Toggle off Reachability. Locked the screen, placed in plastic bag, put in back pocket during ride.

After 16 to 17 minutes the iPhone started randomly activating various applications even while the screen appeared locked. While riding, I took the phone out of my pocket and it continued to activate random applications. This continued for about 16 to 17 minutes. The phone than seemed to stabilize. But after another 16 to 17 minutes it started back up. The screen continued to appear locked. The phone continued activating random apps for another 16 to 17 minutes then stabilized once again. After that I had no more issues.

There still appears something internal that is turning things on and off.l

Don
