MacBook Volume and Keyboard Brightness Keys Not Working on Boot Camp (Windows 11)

The Boot Camp Control Panel check suggested above is valid : Apple documents that the function keys can control volume, display brightness, keyboard illumination, and media functions in Windows.

There is, however, an important compatibility point in your case.

Apple currently documents Boot Camp for Windows 10 on Intel-based Macs, not Windows 11. Therefore, full Boot Camp driver functionality under Windows 11 on a MacBookPro11,2 is not guaranteed.

→ First isolate the keyboard hardware from Windows :

• Restart into macOS and test F5, F6, F10, F11, and F12.

• If those same keys also fail in macOS, the problem is not specific to Boot Camp or Windows.

• If they work normally in macOS, return to Windows and test them both with and without the Fn key after checking Boot Camp Control Panel > Keyboard > Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys.

→ If the problem exists only in Windows, we would make one driver repair using Apple’s official support software rather than another third-party package :

• Start in macOS and open Boot Camp Assistant.

• Choose Action > Download Windows Support Software and save it to a USB drive.

• Start Windows, open the downloaded WindowsSupport or BootCamp folder, run Setup or setup.exe, and choose Repair.

• Restart Windows when the installation finishes.

Brigadier can download Apple driver packages, but it is not Apple’s supported installation method, so reinstalling through Brigadier does not completely rule out an incorrect or incompatible Boot Camp driver installation.

If the affected keys work in macOS but still do not work after repairing the Apple-provided Boot Camp software, Windows 11 compatibility becomes the strongest remaining explanation.

Because Windows 11 is outside Apple’s documented Boot Camp configuration for this Mac, there may not be an Apple-supported driver fix for that combination.

Apple’s current Boot Camp documentation supports Windows 10 on compatible Intel-based Macs. It does not document Windows 11 as a supported Boot Camp configuration, so complete driver compatibility under Windows 11 cannot be guaranteed.

The volume and keyboard brightness keys on a MacBook 11,2 running Windows 11 via Boot Camp usually fail because the Boot Camp Control Panel background service or helper task (AppleCamp.exe / BootCamp.exe) is not running at startup. 

Check Boot Camp Control Panel Settings

1. Click the up arrow (show hidden icons) in the bottom-right corner of the Windows taskbar. 
2. Click the Boot Camp icon and select Boot Camp Control Panel. 
3. Go to the Keyboard tab. 
4. Verify whether "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is checked or unchecked. If it is checked, you must press the Fn key alongside F5, F6, or F10–F12 to change brightness or volume. 
5. Uncheck "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light" if it is enabled, as the ambient light sensor driver often fails in Windows 11 and locks out manual keyboard illumination.
