Iphone 15pro battery drain issue

Got my iphone 15pro 8 days ago and the battery keeps draining. it drains even though its idle and the phone's battery life only lasts for 3hours when charged to 80%. the iphone storage's still climbing. the home and lockscreen consumes most of the battery percentage. When is it likely to stop? And will the battery life turn back to normal?

Return it and get your money back. The battery health was almost certainly artificially boosted. Lord only know what else they did to it.

There is a very real chance that the phone has been tampered with and if you too it to Apple to get the battery replaced, they would refuse to service it.

You bought a used phone......correct?

We ask because the iPhone 15 Pro was discontinued in September 2024. If the phone was really "new", it sat in a warehouse somewhere for a year or longer......which would not have been good at all for the battery.

What is the current setting for Maximum Capacity? Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging

How many Charge Cycles has the iPhone completed at this point?

The battery in the iPhone 15 Pro was designed to handle up to 1,000 Charge Cycles before it reaches 80% Maximum Capacity....under ideal conditions.

That works out to about a 1% decline in Battery Health / Maximum Capacity for every 50 Charge Cycles.

So, the battery has completed about 700 Charge Cycles at this point. That would mean that ideally, the Battery Health / Maximum Capacity was at about 85-86% at this time. We don't know how that compares to your actual reading of Battery Health / Max Cap because you did not provide that setting as we requested.

If you want to try to improve the battery performance, my recommendation would be to ignore any Charge Limits that you might have currently and set up the battery to use Optimized Battery Charging. Connect the phone to the power supply at night and leave it connected all night.....every night.

Frankly, I don't think that the battery performance is really going to improve much or return to what you feel is "normal", because the battery only has about 20-25% of useful life left at this point.

Replace the battery when it dips below 80% Maximum Capacity. The Apple Store / Genius Bar or an Authorized Apple Service Provider (AASP) can handle that for you.

Yes its a used iphone. the cycle count was 690 when i got it. but it has drastically increased to 717 after 9 days of acquiring the iphone. at first i thought the problem was from the syncing or backup because the storage is still increasing in this sequence 78>81>76>88>98>80>79>98 where its currently in and its still fluctutuating. im still thinking that maybe itll have to reach above 100 before it stops which was my original phone storage before i switched to this. then the battery will return back to normal but i dont know if thats the case anymore.

The battery health was 100% when got the phone. its currently 97% after 8 days which implies that the battery might have been boosted or something like that. the phone charges all night. when i unplug it at 100% by 6 AM, the phone will drop down to 41% by 9:30AM even though its idle i.e ive not used it...at all. the phone then feels warm and when i check the battery usage, itll show that the home and lockscreen used about 30% of the battery. also, when there's an increase in the phone storage by something like 8GB, an ongoing device setup message will appear under the battery percentage in settings.

Ongoing device setup:

your iphone is completing setup steps in the background. Battery life and thermal performance may improve once finished.

You told us that the battery had completed 690 Cycles when you bought the phone. That would put the Maximum Capacity at about 85% if the battery was performing normally.

No way that a used phone would have 100% Maximum Capacity unless the battery had just been replaced before you bought the phone. But, you know that the phone did not have a new battery because it had already completed about 700 Charge Cycles at the time.

It really does sound like the battery was "boosted" to make it appear much better than it really was. Unfortunately, this happens all the time with used phones. You just don't know what you are getting when you buy a used phone. Your phone may or may not have a genuine Apple battery installed.

All that you can do is continue to use the phone until you see a message that the battery is degraded or the battery won't last long even after it has been charged. You won't be able to trust the Maximum Capacity numbers because they are not real.

My guess is that you are going to need a new battery in the next few months. Hopefully, the phone has a genuine battery installed now. If the Apple tech finds a 3rd party battery in the phone when you take it in, they will probably refuse to work on the phone.
