Have you tried a different Lightning connector? It could be lint or dust in the charging port too. You could try using a plastic toothpick and gently pry any possible dirt in the port. DO NOT use forced air to try to clean the port as it could embed whatever might be in there deeper. If neither helps, then you'll need to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and Apple can test the port and if needed explain service options to you.

Thank you - great advice. I used a plastic tooth pick and cleaned out the port. Amazing how much dust came out...anyway it no seems much better
There are two types of cables: one designed solely for charging, and another that both charges and enables data transfer.
Search for accessories that have completed MFi certification.
