iPad 9th generation: Wired Ethernet and charging not working

Hi all

I have several iPads 9th generation with Lightning Ports (16 to be exact). I am in need of using wired ethernet connections on these aswell as charging them at the same time. Previously I have bought cheap Ethernet to Lightning adapters with charging from some random web store in Asia. But they dont last long sadly... Therefore as a small step into the future I bought new "USB-C to Ethernet + Charging" adapters from Belkin and had a vision that a lighning to usb-c adapter would be the thing I need and when I some day in the future change the iPads i can still use the same good quality Belkin USB-C to Ethernet.

But, the Lightning to USB-C adapters I bought (also Belkin i belive) did not work with the Ethernet even though charging worked and the adapter said it supported USB 2.0. I read somewhere online that the adapter needs to support OTG so I found some that does that but before I buy I just wanted to double check! :)

I wouldn’t buy more adapters just because they say OTG. With a Lightning iPad, USB host support and charging through a generic Lightning-to-USB-C adapter isn’t guaranteed, even if the adapter says USB 2.0.

For a setup you need to work reliably across 16 iPads, I’d use Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. It has a USB-A port for the Ethernet adapter and a separate Lightning port for power, so the iPad can stay charged while using wired Ethernet.

Apple specifically documents Ethernet support with that adapter and lists compatible USB-A Ethernet adapters here: Use Apple USB-A camera adapters with USB-A devices

I wouldn’t count on the USB-C Belkin Ethernet/charging adapters working through another conversion layer. They’re designed for devices that have a USB-C host port, which the 9th-generation iPad doesn’t have.
