downloading an old os onto a usb

I am trying to download macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 but I cannot do this from the App Store to a usb but I get this message: The requested version of macOS is not available. Please check if your Mac is compatible with this software. Is there any other way to download the os?

What Mac are you using to do the download?

As indicated by that message, the Mac you are using to download that installer from the App Store must qualify to run that version of macOS.

In other words, you can only download the installer with a High Sierra compatible Mac.

You need to use a Mac that is compatible with High Sierra. Compatible Macs are listed here: macOS High Sierra - Technical Specifications - Apple Support

You can use most any Mac that was released between 2009-2017. Any newer Mac does not qualify to run High Sierra.
