Incoming FaceTime calls fail on iMac

I cannot receive incoming FaceTime calls on my iMac (2019 15.7.7). Outgoing calls work ok; incoming FT calls can also be answered on my iPhone

I've tried usual things like signing out of FaceTime and Apple ID.

Suggestions please!

TIA

Peter

Incoming calls fail when my email address is used ( I believe they also fail when using phone number).

The incoming call presents itself normally, ringing and allowing me to accept it and FaceTime window opens showing my own camera view; a second later I get a call failed message.

Incoming FaceTime audio calls also fail, showing call fail message in notification (FaceTime window does not open).

Not sure if related, but normal voice calls to my mobile number no longer ring on my iMac - only my iPhone. This did used to work.

Thanks for your replies!

Just to let you know that the issue is now fixed - albeit via an unintentional way.

I found my Mac locked one morning with the padlock sign on the display. I followed the Internet recovery process but my Mac HD was not appearing as a destination option for MacOS re-install, and it did not appear in the list of devices in Disk Utility. On the 3rd restart the Mac booted up again as normal. Thought I'd try an incoming FT call, and voila, it worked!

Weird but wonderful.

thanks Ingo2711 for you suggestions along the way.
