iPad Air microphone privacy concern while using banking app

Hello! I was on my iPad Air 5th generation, in a banking app. I was commenting to my husband about how much interest our CD had accrued, and about our HYSA. Awhile later, I noticed that in my settings (in “Sounds”) the Microphone was on “Automatic”.

Is there a chance that our conversation was heard and possibly recorded …because I’m pretty sure it included the name of the bank as well. Or if it didn’t, could someone have SEEN what banking app I was on and heard the conversation? I know about the orange dot, but I wasn’t looking for it and don’t know if it was showing.

Thank you

iPad Air, iPadOS 26

Presumably the Banking App in question is an official App provided by your bank - and downloaded from the Apple App Store? If so, you should have no cause for concern.

You are clearly aware of the orange and green dot indicators that show when the iPad (or iPhone) microphone or camera are active. If these were not showing, then neither were active. The permissions for access to the device microphone and camera only allow this hardware to be accessed by the associated App; presence of these permissions does not imply that they have been accessed.

Your banking App may include a chat or communication feature that can be accessed from within the App - these features, if present, require access to (and permission to use) the associated hardware.

If you have any concerns whatsoever, contact your Bank for advice - and/or change any associated account passwords.
