Yes, an iPhone 16 running iOS 26 should still work with your iMac on macOS Sequoia 15.7.9.

For normal Finder syncing, Apple only requires macOS Catalina or later, so Sequoia is well within that range. iPhone Mirroring also works with iOS 18 or later and macOS Sequoia 15 or later, provided the Mac itself meets the hardware requirements.

So I wouldn’t consider Sequoia a compatibility problem for buying that iPhone 16. Some newer Continuity features may require macOS Tahoe, but basic iPhone syncing and use with the Mac do not.

my bad. I should have included that my iMac is a 2019 27 inch model. very much up-specced.

All good things. But what about whether there are any non-Apple parts installed, like battery or screen? A used iPhone may not be blacklisted, but it may be locked to a carrier, which may not be the carrier you use, want or can use. What is the battery health on the phone? If you're not happy with the phone will they take it back for full refund? The major bases are good, but there other bases, which can be extremely important as well. A pawn shop is one of the very last places I'd ever consider buying a used iPhone.
