Why do I have double of every movie??

Take one movie, for example. What are the two locations you see the file in? (Click on the movie file to highlight it, and the location is shown at the very bottom of the Finder window.) If these are movies you've purchased from the iTunes Store, very often you'll get both an HD and an SD version, so that's one possible explanation.

I have doubles too, but one is a cloned version resulting from SuperDuper cloning the drive onto an external drive. A clue might be found in seeing where the files are located. You may already know this, but select Finder / View / Show Path Bar. Then when you single-click on a file, the path will show up on the lower edge of the Finder window. This may help to see where they are located and why there are duplicates.

Are you dragging movies into iTunes at all? This can duplicate files. There is a checkbox in the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences stating "Copy files when adding to iTunes library..." If you uncheck that box, the next time you drag something into iTunes, it will point to the file instead of copying it to the database.

Could be something to do with Iphoto&imovie....I import all my pics and movie clips into iphoto
Then as you probably know when you open imovie and select 'iphoto videos' it spends a million years opening thumbnails of every movie clip...
Its just a guess...but could this be actually duplicating every movie file?
Whats the deal here....I'd really like a huge amount of disc space back
