iPad Pro apps close to Home Screen with JetsamEvent logs after clean setup
I’m hoping someone in the community might have some ideas because I’ve been troubleshooting this for a few weeks with both Apple and Procreate support and I’m still having the same problem.
I have an iPad Pro 13-inch (M5) 256 GB Model MDYJ4LL/A. Purchased new October 2025. It's worked great until the beginning of August, when apps started unexpectedly closing and sending me back to the Home Screen. This is not limited to one app. It has happened repeatedly with Procreate, but I have also had it happen while using Skillshare, Match Factory, and Safari.
When it happens, the app simply disappears and I’m returned to the Home Screen. The iPad does not show the Apple logo and does not appear to do a complete reboot.
Here is everything I have tried so far:
• Restarted the iPad multiple times.
• Made sure iPadOS was updated.
• Went to the Apple Store/Genius Bar and had the iPad reset.
• Restored the iPad from iCloud afterward, but the crashes continued.
• Contacted Apple Support and worked with a senior advisor.
• Apple ran remote diagnostics on the iPad twice. I was told they did not find a stability or hardware issue.
• Checked Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data. There have been multiple JetsamEvent logs as well as other analytics logs.
• Contacted Procreate support and provided diagnostic information/logs to them.
• Because the problem continued, I decided to eliminate my backup as a possible cause.
Today, September 5, I moved all of my Procreate artwork off the iPad and into Dropbox. I then completely erased the iPad again using Erase All Content and Settings.
This time I set it up as a brand-new iPad. I did NOT restore an iCloud backup or a backup from my Mac.
After the clean setup, I installed only Procreate and Dropbox besides the regular apps that come with an ipad.
I intentionally did not reinstall all of my other apps because I wanted to test the iPad in as clean a state as possible.
I brought over 2 procreate files from dropbox.
Within approximately five minutes of using Procreate, it happened again.
Procreate suddenly closed and I was sent back to the Home Screen. There was no Apple logo and the iPad did not appear to reboot. This time, however, the Home Screen was Dark instead of showing my wallpaper. It stayed that way until I locked the iPad and unlocked it again.
I immediately checked Analytics Data and there are two new JetsamEvent entries from today after the clean setup.
At this point the problem has occurred:
• Before an Apple Store reset
• After the Apple Store reset
• After restoring from my backup
• In multiple apps
• After a complete erase
• After setting the iPad up as new with no backup restored
• With essentially nothing installed except Procreate and Dropbox
The most concerning part to me is that I was able to reproduce the problem within about five minutes on a freshly erased iPad that was set up as new.
Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly repeated JetsamEvent logs or apps being terminated on an iPad that has already been completely erased and set up as new?
Could this still be a software/iPadOS issue, or does reproducing it after a clean setup point more toward a hardware or memory problem that Apple’s diagnostics might not be detecting?
I’m happy to provide information from the JetsamEvent logs if there are particular fields I should look for.
Thanks for any ideas. I feel like I’ve eliminated most of the usual troubleshooting suggestions at this point.
