AirTag only showing home

AirTag only showing home

My AirTag always shows where it’s at when it leaves my home even if it’s just driving by a certain road. It has not changed the location. It still says home and I know for a fact it’s not home. Why is it not showing Also why is the time that it was last located or whatever in red? And also, why is there a little question mark Around the card part in Orange? These are two new things that I’ve recognized. I’ve got my notifications on. I’ve got everything on so it should have shown where it’s at because I know where it’s at is near an iPhone right now or at least pass by one.anything?

AirTag works by beaconing, and needs an Apple iPhone or iPad or such device within range to relay the AirTag location to Find My. AirTag is Bluetooth-based, with no GPS and no cellular capabilities. AirTag has no means of determining its own location.

That range is within roughly 10m for AirTag 1, and roughly 100m for AirTag 2. That’s clear-air line-of-site range. Buildings, metal, terrain, walls, all greatly shorten the effective Bluetooth range.

Updates depend on an Apple device within range to relay AirTag position too, so updates might be minutes or hours or never. And the location is based on that of the relaying Apple device, not the AirTag.

That AirTag has no cellular and no GPS and depends on relays is why it is so cheap.

Give it an hour or three.

Could be the AirTag is not working, either due to bad hardware or a weak or depleted battery.

Older AirTag models don’t always make good contact with coin cell batteries using bitterant coatings, as well.

If the AirTag hardware has failed, that’s a discussion with Apple Support.
