Cannot sign in to iTunes app on Windows 11 PC

Hello, Yes, I can log in with my Apple Account so I know my log info is current and it works ( that's how I got this far, right?). However, my attempts to log in for the iTunes app on my Win 11 PC will not allow me log into the app. Why?

The only recourse the app provides is to reset my password. That is not the problem because I can use my Apple account login info successfully already, just not with the iTunes app. Is that crazy? I did remove the iTunes app and re-installed the app on my PC and I got the same result, unable to log in to iTunes. Suggestions?

iPhone 17, iOS 26

I haven't had a chance to try it yet but this is what I got from Apple support:

go to C: Drive/ProgramData/Apple Computer/iTunes

and delete ADI folder (although I would rename it to be safe)

and then try login again

Had this exact same issue. Removed the windows store update version and installed the version from the ITunes website. Of course, my iTunes Library.itl file was then from a newer version and wouldn't load.

Re-installed the latest version again. Same issue. Renamed the adi folder to adi.old without closing the app. Logged in and was then sent a code to my phone for 2fa and was then able to log in and buy a new album download.

To me it looks like the cached info in the adi folder is preventing the mandatory 2fa authentication and removing/renaming it appears to resolve the issue. Closing iTunes and then re-opening it cause the password screen to appear twice, but I was able to get back in without the need for 2fa.

Hello. Per one of the notes above I went to C: Drive/ProgramData/Apple Computer/iTunes

and renamed the adi folder to adi.old (with iTunes App closed). Then launched the iTunes App again (latest version from the Microsoft Store), performed the authentication steps with my iPhone, and was able to log into my account and see everything back to normal. Kudos to those who responded with this fix! It worked for me! Now I can gift the TV series I wanted to! Cheers!

Had the same, exact thing and finally fixed it by rebuilding the ADI Folder. All good now! Try this, if you are still having issues:

Rename or Delete the ADI Folder

Corrupted local authentication data in iTunes can prevent signing in. [1]

  • Close iTunes completely.
  • Open File Explorer and navigate to:
  • C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes
  • Rename or delete the adi folder.
  • Reopen iTunes and attempt to sign in again; you will be prompted to re-authenticate with two-factor authentication (2FA).

Renaming the adi did not work for me. Tried the iTunes App reset and it failed. One my google inquiries triggered me to look at authorized devices on my iPhone 15 pro and I saw that my previous windows 10 laptop was there and not my new windows 11 PC. Thus I followed steps to remove my old PC and authorize my new windows 11 PC. That worked. I can now access the iTunes Store. Did not have to reload iTunes or change password. :)

Note the version obtained from the Windows Store as mentioned in many posts has always had worse performance than the native Windows executable iTunes version

Luckily the version available for download from Apple is now Version 12.13.11.1 even though the updater isn't providing it

So to download the latest version go to iTunes - Apple (UK) scrolling down and click where it says "Looking for other versions? Windows" and then Download iTunes for Windows now (64‑bit) to download iTunes64Setup.exe

Then as suggested delete / rename C: Drive/ProgramData/Apple Computer/iTunes/Adi

and on next launch it will request a new 2FA code and log in OK

Following my previous post saying I was having the same problem as everyone here, where I couldn’t log in to iTunes. I tried the Apple support, and although the guy was really helpful, he couldn’t fix it.

In the end a friend helped me fix it, which he discovered almost by accident after having the same issue.

It was to simply change my Apple password by opening iTunes, going to ‘Help’, then ‘Apple Service and Support’, try to ‘sign in’, then ‘forgotten password’.

The next bit was the important bit, now wait at least 24 hours or more before trying to sign back into iTunes again.

I changed my password Thursday afternoon and didn’t try to use it until Saturday morning when it just signed me straight in with the new password. Sorted!

Sounds mad I know but it worked for me.

Hello,

I have just seen this and I hope this can help:

It’s not crazy—this can happen when the iTunes app on Windows has a sign-in or authentication issue even though your Apple Account details are correct.

Try signing out of any Apple services on the PC, then restart the computer and try again. You can also check that Windows, iTunes, and the Apple software components are fully up to date.

If iTunes still only offers a password reset, there may be an issue with the app’s saved sign-in data or authentication. You could try removing any saved Apple Account credentials from Windows Credential Manager, restarting the PC, and then signing in again.

If possible, sharing a screenshot of the exact sign-in screen or error message could help identify the specific problem.

I hope this has helped you,

if it has not please reply,

thank you and kind regards,

I have iTunes on more than one Win10Pro PC and a Win11Pro PC. I installed iTunes 12.13.11.1 on one (only) of these PCs (today) when prompted to do so. This is the only PC that now gives me these iTunes log in problems - I now get 'Verification Failed: This action could not be completed' when attempting an iTunes log in. This is a Win 10Pro PC.

For all other instances? My other Win 10/11 PCs (with, for example, iTunes 12.13.10.3 installed) still allow me to be 'normally' logged-in to iTunes.

I have tried a re-install of iTunes as a fix. This fixed nothing. Conclusion, surely?: Apple need to fix iTunes and release a new version that does not give this 'Sign in - Fail' problem
