CarPlay always shows directions at startup

CarPlay always shows directions at startup. In the morning, it gives directions to work. I X out of that. Run by local coffee shop. When I get back in the car the directions to work come back. Same in the afternoon. Start the car and CarPlay brings up directions to home. I have to X that off the screen. My wife's CarPlay does not do that but I can't see any different settings she has from mine. I get the suggestions pane that shows up and then goes away. But having to clear off the actual directions every time is a bit of an annoyance. iPhone 17 Pro Max (26.6.1) in a 2026 Acura MDX.

This sounds less like a CarPlay connection problem and more like Apple Maps’ driving suggestions being automatically presented when CarPlay starts.


One useful way to narrow this down is to configure your iPhone in your wife’s car and see whether the same behavior occurs. If your iPhone automatically brings up directions to Work or Home in her CarPlay system as well, the behavior is likely associated with your iPhone, Maps, or your personalized location suggestions rather than the Acura MDX.


Conversely, if your iPhone behaves normally in your wife’s car but your wife’s iPhone also behaves normally in your MDX, that would point more strongly toward something specific to the CarPlay configuration or settings in your MDX.


I would also try the reverse test: connect your wife’s iPhone to your MDX and see whether it automatically presents directions to Home/Work. This two-way test is much more useful than comparing settings screens because it isolates the iPhone from the vehicle.


So, before changing a lot of settings, do this simple swap:

  • Your iPhone → Wife’s car
  • Wife’s iPhone → Your MDX


The results should tell you fairly quickly whether you are dealing with an iPhone/Maps behavior or an Acura/CarPlay-specific behavior.
