Autocorrect not working on iPhone after update

I’d check Settings > General > Keyboard first and make sure Auto-Correction is still turned on. You can also turn it off, restart the iPhone, then turn it back on.

I’d also install the latest iOS update available for your iPhone. Apple’s current iOS 26 release notes include keyboard accuracy improvements, so this may be software-related.

In case anybody else comes here from a search engine like I did — you’re not crazy.

I have always had auto-correct enabled. It usually works.

But every once in a while, just since the summer of 2026 maybe (iPhone 17, I installed the iOS 27 beta a couple months ago and have been running it ever since) — auto-correct will spontaneously turn off.

The keyboard will work, but auto-correct AND predictive text will stop working.

This happens in completely normal first-party apps like Safari and Messages.

It has felt like after the app closes and re-opens, auto-correct works again, but I can’t be sure.

This exactly the issue that I have. at first I chalked it up to me being on the beta branch of iOS 27 but even after going on the regular public stable branch, it still happens relatively often. it’s very annoying and frustrating
