hi everyone, I am new to this community forum. And I just ordered an apple watch off amazon series 11. And I wanna wear it in the shower, but it says that it's water resistant. So that only means it cant handle under water right?
I have a Series 11. It is water resistant, but not water proof. So some gentle water exposure is ok. And water resistance does degrade over time (seals).
Use in the shower is probably better to avoid for several reasons:
- High pressure from the shower faucet can breach or damage seals
- Soap and shampoo substances can get under the watch between it and your wrist or react with other parts of the watch and result in some degradation or discoloration. Residues between the watch and skin can build up and cause skin reactions.
- Scrubbing in shower can inadvertently affect the watch surface materials or seals.
- Noting the above, showers can be more unfriendly to a smart watch than gentle exposure in other water environments (pool, ocean).
- You can probably be fine without the Apple watch for the short period of time of a shower.
Showers are short. Maybe a good time to charge the watch. I do that and those ten minutes of charging are all my watch (a Series 11) needs each day. Despite it being worn and used all day and all night (sleep tracking) and also for one or two workouts each day, often a 45 min walking outdoors workout and a 2 hour bicycling workout.
