Is Apple's $100 price hike on the iPhone 17 after the event wrong?

I am honestly pretty disappointed with Apple right now. I ordered the iPhone 17 in late August but then realized an Apple event was coming up so I figured I would buy the iPhone 18 instead so I returned the 17 since i would be outside the price match / return window.

Sadly no new phone came out and they raised the price of their phones. I repurchased the iPhone 17 then reached out to support, gave them both of my order numbers, and politely asked if they could do a price match given the situation. Nope. Just a rigid "the price is the price".

I know legally they don't owe me anything and I'm not entitled to a price match. I completely understand that component costs and inflation make parts more expensive these days but you'd think they could at least give loyal fans a short grace period before increasing up the price on an older models.

Am i wrong for feeling like that was just wrong... shame too because i was seriously considering getting the Duo as well.

I'm afraid the "short grace period" was the time between when Apple said that prices would have to go up – and when they raised them. In the case of Macs and iPads, that happened much faster than a lot of people expected. With iPhones, the price of the Duo and the price increases on the 18 Pro and Pro Max models were expected – as was the lack of an 18 non-Pro mode. However, until Apple held their "event" and made their announcement, that was all speculation that we could not discuss here.

I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way. It makes sense to be frustrated after putting in the effort to get the best deal, only to see the price shift unexpectedly.

Unfortunately, Apple’s event timing and promotions can make situations like this confusing and disappointing.

You did your best to make a thoughtful choice and it’s completely understandable to feel let down when things don’t work out as expected.

I hope you’re able to get a resolution that feels fair or at least some peace knowing you weren’t alone in this experience.
