iPhone 17 Pro touchscreen completely unresponsive after iOS 27 public update (24A437)

I’m posting this to find out whether any other iPhone 17 Pro owners are experiencing the same issue with the public release of iOS 27.

I have an iPhone 17 Pro 256GB that was working normally on iOS 26.7.

Today, September 14, I updated it through the official OTA Software Update to iOS 27.0 public release, build 24A437. Beta Updates were disabled.

After the update completed and the iPhone rebooted, the display came on normally and reached the “Hello” screen, but the touchscreen became completely unresponsive. No taps or swipes are recognized anywhere on the screen, so I cannot even proceed past the Hello screen. The display itself works and the physical buttons respond.

What makes this particularly interesting is that I had already experienced the exact same behavior on iOS 27 RC build 24A435.

At that time, I performed a complete clean restore of iOS 27 RC, without restoring a backup, apps, settings or user data. The touchscreen was still completely unresponsive at the Hello screen immediately after the clean restore.

When the same iPhone was restored back to iOS 26, touchscreen functionality returned immediately.

Before today’s public iOS 27 test, I updated the device to iOS 26.7 and it was working normally. I then updated directly from 26.7 to the public iOS 27.0 24A437 via OTA, and the complete touchscreen failure returned.

Apple has already run remote diagnostics, MRI and the Multi-Touch diagnostic, and all of them passed without detecting a hardware failure.

I reported the issue to Apple before the public release and have an active Apple Support case and a Feedback Assistant report. I am now also taking the device to an Apple Authorized Service Provider for evaluation because the issue has been reproduced on the official public release.

So far, the behavior on this particular device is very consistent:

iOS 26.7 → touchscreen works normally

iOS 27 RC 24A435 → touchscreen completely unresponsive

Clean restore of 24A435 → touchscreen still completely unresponsive at Hello screen

Restore to iOS 26 → touchscreen works again

iOS 27 public 24A437 → touchscreen completely unresponsive again at Hello screen

Has anyone else with an iPhone 17 Pro experienced this specifically on iOS 27 public build 24A437?

If you have, please mention your exact iPhone model, iOS build, whether the display still showed an image, and whether downgrading/restoring changed the behavior.

Mine updated just fine without any issues. Have you tried the Force Restart:

  • Press and quickly release Volume Up
  • Press and quickly release Volume Down
  • Press and HOLD Side button until the Apple logo appears. Ignore anything else on the screen including the prompt to Slide to Power off, and it could take up to 10 seconds before you will see the Apple logo where you would release the Side button.
