iPad 9th gen not charging after iOS 27 update.

After updating 9th gen iPad to iOS 27 it will not charge.

It had gone totally flat.

I’ve done numerous hard resets, using original charger and cable that has been tested and working.

Battery icon shows on screen with one red line, and it shows the charge cable has been plugged in.

I had the same issue, with the battery icon and single red bar, when I updated to iOS27 on my Gen 9. I was able to fix the issue, by using the Apple 20W charger in a wall socket. I plugged the Ipad in to the charger and left it alone. I did not try to reset it, start it, or anything else. I just left it alone. After about a day and a half on the charger, I pushed the power button to check it and I had 93 percent battery. It took that long for the battery and whatever else was going on to wake up. I kept it on the charger and got it to 100%. Ipad is working fine now, charging and staying charged. When I got it working, there was an update to iOS27 to fix bug issues. So Apple must be aware of it needing to be fixed.

Why did you brick our iPads? I can say with 100% certainty before this update my iPad was charging with no issues whatsoever. It’s the update that’s done something. How do we fix this? A real answer. It won’t charge at all. I’m worried it’s going to burn out from attempting to charge. Someone give actual practical advice on what to do please

Finally switched to plug in 20W block and it’s charging properly now.

Unless the Power Adapter explicitly supports USB PD, it will almost certainly fail to reliably charge the iPad; proprietary charging standards, such as QC (Quick Charge), are not supported. As USB PD is in part influenced by system software, the installed version of iPadOS may have some impact upon charging performance.

My ipad 9th gen is also having problems after ios 27. It seems when the ipad is turned off it wont charge at all. However it does charge normally when it is on. I believe this is why people are having issues charging dead batteries since it is turned off. I would also like to point out some other bugs related to sound with my earpods. The bass has increased dramatically while the mids and highs have become muffled. Also even if i turn the volume down to 0 i can still faintly hear sound coming through. Lastly in Spotify if i have the volume set to 0 when an ad plays it is full volume. All of these issues started with ios 27. Doing a forced reset doesn’t do anything.

So my iPad’s behaviour seems to have changed. Previous to iOS 27.0.1 it would take days to charge, and just would not boot. After 27.0.1 (where it was fully drained) I plugged it in and it booted and charged to 100%. I cannot confirm how long it took to boot, when it began charging after booting, but it definitely is different behaviour since the update.

This is absolutely unequivocally a software problem, and in my opinion I find it troubling that Apple are apparently still advising Genius Bar visit (where presumably they would recommend battery change (at consumer cost) that is likely not to resolve the problem).

I tried it and once it died again it was at the same point and took overnight to charge.
the issue also seems to be worse if you let it die twice

Intentional full discharge of a Li-ion battery is never a good idea. In so doing, you always risk causing irreversible damage to the battery - in particular if you are already experiencing charging issues.

Same here. IPad Gen 9 not charging after update to iPadOS 27. Seeing some guys having the same issue as me on facebook. Have been charging overnight for 8 hours, the power bank droped 1-2 percents, but it still show red battery icon and won't boot up. Of course I tried every charger I have but none of them make the difference.

Hope there is a way to charge this thing to few percents, so I can restore it to 26.

*Raises classroom hand* This happens to me too, but I have to keep it plugged in for hours - five, six, doesn’t seem to make a difference. My iPad 9th gen will show that the iPad is charging on the blank screen, but even if it’s been “charging” for like 7 hours, when it finally boots up it only shows battery at 3 percent. This never happened to me before iPadOS27, it must be something to do with how they’ve changed or how the new OS charges these older iPads.

The problem is that I leave mine to play white noise over night (I only have 1 charger) so it usually dies, and then I have to wait like a day or so to be able to use it again.

This is the first time that I have ever had a major problem with a new iPadOS update.
