Contacts search issue After update to iOS 27

After updating my iPhone from iOS 26 to iOS 27, the Contacts search function stopped working. My contacts are still there, but when I try to search for a contact by name, the search does not return the correct results.

Could you please advise how I can fix this issue? Is this a known problem with iOS 27?

I am unable to replicate the issue that you describe with iOS 27 and the Contacts Search function.

If your iPhone is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated or post-update software issue:

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPhone settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPhone settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPhone to factory settings:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

Contacts search is working, but it has become extremely slow since I updated from iOS 26 to iOS 27. I have approximately 10,000 contacts, and when I search for someone, it now takes about 10–15 seconds for the results to appear.

Before the iOS 27 update, Contacts search was almost instant, even with the same number of contacts, and I never had this issue.

The “Optimizing Search/Indexing” process has already completed, so this does not appear to be related to ongoing indexing. I have also restarted the iPhone, but the issue remains.

This problem started immediately after updating to iOS 27. Please advise if this is a known issue and whether there is a fix or workaround.

my question is what exactly Apple wants do by forcing the users to upgrade the OS in a span of 2 weeks

No one here in this user-to-user forum would know Apple's reasons for doing something. However, I would note that Apple frequently releases a point updat (e.g. 27.0.1) within a couple of weeks after the original release. No matter how good the beta testing is, once the OS is released to the general public, things may be come apparent that needs to be fixed. Why would you not want Apple to release updates to fix recently identified issues? Would you prefer they do nothing?

Sir/Madam,
Which are those critical vulnerabilities which Apple has found? Please enlighten me..

I didn't say that they had or had not updated anything. Or what those updates were. I'm not Apple. Perhaps contact them.

You don’t release the patches in haste ,out of the blue..

The fact that you don't know what went into planning them doesn't mean they were in haste or "out of the blue."

This is a terrible glitch - I am the CEO of the company, and this glitch is just driving me crazy so much that i want to switch to Android - this is UNACCEPTABLE. It's a basic function for CONTACT search to work; it was working on Nokia in 2000, Samsung, anywhere before except iOS 27!!! Apple - you need to wake up and fix it! i have iPhone 17 Pro Max.

I’m using an iPhone 16 Pro Max. After updating from iOS 26 to iOS 27, the Contacts search function stopped working properly.

My contacts are still present on the phone, but when I search for a contact by name, the search does not return the correct results.

Could you please advise me on how I can fix this issue? Is this a known problem with iOS 27, particularly on the iPhone 16 Pro Max?

I would appreciate any troubleshooting steps or recommended solution.
