Goldengate Siri not working

I just upgraded to MacOD 27.0 Goldengate on my MacBook Pro M4. Based on reviews I was expecting the Siri and Spotlight icons in the menu bar to be merged into one... however they are both there and Siri does nothing... a brief flicker and it vanishes; Spotlight appears unchanged. I have rebooted and I have checked that Siri is enabled in Settings it is and there's also a "try beta" button which I won't check as I don't want to be tester.

Did anyone else experience this absent Siri? Any tricks to get it back?

... but now I've just re-read the "learn more" and I guess the new version that is hyped is actually the Beta version? should I click the "try"? I I do should I disconnect from ChatGPT first?

Could you show us what you see in System Settings->Siri?

I don't see any "Try Beta", what I do see is a note that Siri is in beta:

If you want the new Siri, you can click on try, though it only places you on the waiting list; since the rollout is gradual, you will receive a notification once it becomes available.
