iPhone 18 Pro overheating
Bought the new iPhone 18 Pro, and it’s been overheating all the time, even when I’m just browsing websites. I’m really starting to doubt the quality, especially considering the price you pay for it.

Check Settings > Battery to see if there are apps running that use a lot of power. If there are, decide if you can turn off a service such as Settings > General > Background app refresh when an app is in the background, or Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Like the 17 Pro’s before it, your 18 is doing a lot of background task such as indexing, syncing and optimization. Apple notes this if you open your Settings app and/or Battery settings and you’ll see notices. Tap the arrow and follow the link to an article.

As for the device getting warm after the update to iOS 27, that is a common issue on every device and will continue for about 5-7 days following the update/setup of a new phone. Not only is there increased heat, but also increased battery drain, and some UI lag while these background processes continue to index the files. Apple describes what you should expect here in their support article. You can look back on this support article and see those same posts after every update, including iOS 26, iOS 18, iOS 17, etc, and following every new device release for that period of time after setup.

In order for those background processes to complete quicker, it is best to charge your phone all night, every night and have it connected to WiFi.
Mine too severely began overheating. The assumption it is indexing or background tasks is fun except when it’s burning your calloused hands and you need to put it down. It’s a design flaw at best measuring a temperature that isn’t the one on the exterior, and it is objectively overheating and not registering at worst.

New iPhone 18 Pro is too hot to handle! I have charged it fully while locked overnight. I have shut off the phone for some time and restarted it. It soon gets hot upon using again. This is a brand new phone recently purchased.
