macOS 27.0 / iOS 27: SMS and RCS fail with Not Delivered on Mac; iMessage works

Hello, I can no longer send green SMS/RCS messages from Messages on my Mac, although sending from my iPhone works. Has anyone found a solution on macOS 27 and iOS 27?

Configuration: MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021), M1 Pro, 16 GB RAM; macOS Golden Gate 27.0; iPhone running iOS 27.

Observed behavior:

- Green messages sent from the Mac fail with ‘Not Delivered’ (‘Non distribué’ in French). Reproduced with two different contacts.

- The conversation on the Mac displays ‘Text Message • RCS’. Temporarily disabling RCS on the iPhone did not restore sending from the Mac; RCS has since been re-enabled.

- Blue iMessages work from the Mac. An iMessage sent from the Mac appears on the iPhone, and an iMessage sent from the iPhone appears on the Mac.

- Text Message Forwarding on the iPhone lists the Mac as enabled through Messages in iCloud.

- The same phone number is used on both devices and has not changed.

Already tried without success:

- Restarting both the Mac and iPhone.

- Manually synchronizing Messages.

- Temporarily disabling RCS, then re-enabling it.

- Signing out and back into Messages on the Mac.

This used to work. The exact onset and whether a specific update triggered it have not been established. I have not yet confirmed whether green messages sent from the iPhone subsequently appear on the Mac.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue with macOS 27.0 and iOS 27, with forwarding already enabled? Any confirmed workaround would be appreciated.

I contacted T-Mobile and they had nothing on their end. I then contacted Apple Support and they said my emails/phone # were not registered for use with iMessage. That makes no sense since iMessage is working fine across devices, but they sent me to submit a request to activate it and that I'd have an email in ~24 hours when its ready. I'm still waiting on that email, about 12 hours to go. Fingers crossed. I'll post an update after that comes in.

I am having the same problem, but apparently it's only SOME Android users (green bubbles).

A friend fails, but I can send messages to my nephew. I don't know the difference between their phones/carriers.

I'm on the phone with Apple support now trying to resolve the issue.

Now they claim that I have to call my carrier (T-Mobile) because this is an RCS/SMS issue.

I'm completely disgusted.

This is how I seem to have resolved the problem, at least for now.

  1. Send message to problem Android phone #, it fails.
  2. My husband sent me and problem # a message....which worked.
  3. I replied to that message...which worked.
  4. Problem # sent me a message...which worked.
  5. I sent problem # a message...which worked.

Now the problem is gone for me with that number. I don't know why or how this series of steps fixed the problem for me (on both iOS and MacOS).

I called my carrier (at Apple's insistence) and they were nice but also said "weird, huh?" Apple has now sent my case to engineering. They are supposed to call me back in the next few days (or email me, I'm not sure which).

This kind of transient problem is often quite difficult to pin down unless it happens every time.

We are seeing a similar issue. My wife’s iPhone 11 running iOS 27 can still send texts to Android devices, but her iPad cannot send texts to them and gives a consistent “Not Delivered” error. Her iPad can receive texts from Android users. I suspect something is broken in the iPhone’s text forwarding capability, but we haven’t found a way to fix/reset it. All this worked as expected prior to iOS 27. Strangely, this behavior does not occur on my iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 27 and my iPad. All still works as expected.

Yes, happening to me too. Just restarted both my iPhone 15 Pro and my MacBook Pro (13 in M3). Signed out of iMessage on Mac and signed back in. Turned iMessage off on iPhone and turned it back on and ensured forwarding is enabled. I don't use iMessages in iCloud so nothing to do for me there. Green messages do not appear on the Mac after being sent on iPhone in this state. This certainly seems to be a Golden Gate bug...

Same issue here. All worked fine prior to the '27' update, but afterwards my Mac Mini M4, MacBook Pro M5, & iPad Air 4 all fail to send RCS/SMS messages. They still receive them just fine. My iPhone 16 Pro Max is also working as expected.

I've tried numerous fixes - restarts, enable/disable various settings, log in / out of iCloud, and more - and nothing has fixed it. I've stopped short of calling my mobile carrier or resetting network settings / my iPhone.

I ended up ceasing use of the Messages app on my Mac Studio and MacBook Air. I use it on my iPhone only now and, on occasion, will use iPhone mirroring (although, trying to attach documents or photos from my Mac into Messages via iPhone Mirroring seems to be not ready for prime time (despite having handoff enabled). Oh well, maybe one day it will be fixed.
