Video playing is broken in safari?

Video playing is broken in safari after updating to sequoia 15.8 and safari vers. 27! Tried multiple sites like youtube and F1TV, and the problem is only with safari (streaming works in firefox). Deleting cache etc did not work, and I don’t use any extensions. VPN disabled.

I’m on a 13 inch macbook air from 2020

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.8

the way to tell if the issues is system wide is if the same issue occurs in a test account. is that what is happening?

if all works well in a test account, I need to ask. are you using any apps that claim to "clean up" or "speed up" or otherwise "optimize" your Mac? and / or any antivirus apps? the only thing those apps are good for is causing major issues within macOS while providing ZERO protection or benefit. you would do well to uninstall them.

If you have no such apps, i’m thinking you should download and run the free version of EtreCheck so we can see if you have some software installed that is causing your issue. make sure you give "full disk access" to etrecheck. Learn how to use it by reading Using EtreCheck. if you need help interpreting the report, you can see how to post the report here by reading How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report. and it automatically obscures sensitive things (like serial numbers) so you don't have to worry about sharing the report here.

sorry, but I cannot replicate your issue. YouTube is working as expected on my Sequoia iMac.

the first thing I would try is to Start up your Mac in safe mode. then test. then run the Mac in safe mode for ten minutes, and restart the Mac normally. sometimes issues can be fixed by a safe boot followed by a normal boot.

if that doesn't work, I would set up a testing account, and in that account, test if you still have the issue.that will tell us if the issue is system wide or if tied to your normal account. please see Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

No, when I said neither worked I meant that I already tried a test account without any luck. (sorry for the misunderstanding, english is not my first language)! I wondered what it means for my further troubleshooting that it’s system wide, which feels worse to work through.

I don’t run any clean my mac apps as I know they don’t work, but I will look into etrecheck! thank you again for all your suggestions! and if anyone’s got tips for streaming in firefox for more than ten minutes without my macbook overheating, please let me know. Things are looking bleak for my sports weekend so far
