How can I prove the condition of a returned MacBook Air when there's a discrepancy?

THERE SEEMS TO BE NO RECOURSE TO PROVE THAT I SENT A PERFECTLY GOOD MACBOOK AIR, PACKED IN AN APPROVED APPLE PAKING BOX, AND THEY SAID THE DISPLAY WAS SHATTERED WHEN IT WAS RECEIVED. I DIDN'T REALIZE I COULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO A STORE!

It says it right on the Trade-in page that you can take it directly to the Store, and I would always advise to do that. Then you never have to worry about the price being adjusted after evaluation. You can get a direct quote from Apple in the store where it is evaluated there and not have any delays, not to mention the shipping. I see no way to prove the device was not damaged before sending it in.
