MacBook Screen Time: Password issue enabling Share across devices

I can't see my child's screen usage from my macbook (13in from 2020). He has an iphone17 & macbook air w/ M5 chip. When I look from his computer, I can see his usage.

From my macbook, under system settings --> screen time --> I'm trying to toggle to enable share across devices, but my computer is prompting me to type in my macbook pw

When I click continue, I am prompted to create a new password. I already have one so I don't know why it's asking me. I tried typing a new password and nothing happens when I press create new password.

Do I need to enable share devices on my macbook to see my child's screen usage? If so, why can't i get past this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 26.7

I admit I don’t use Screen Time to restrict a child, but for what it’s worth, it certainly looks to me like you are not being asked to type in your MacBook password.

Instead, you’re being asked to have your child’s Apple Account created on your Mac and establish a password for that account. After all, it looks like that’s what you’re attempting to share.
