iPhone charging issue after iOS 27 update

I own an iPhone SE 2nd generation. Since I updated to iOS 27, my iPhone won't get a stable charge unless the cable is disconnected 4-5 times. The moment I plug it; the charging starts momentarily and then stops. But after 4-5 times (sometimes less), the charging will become stable. I have retried with different sockets, different charging methods, but no difference. This is an annoying experience, and I am looking for help to resolve this issue.

Sounds like your battery is failing. What is the battery health percentage? If it is below 80% it needs to be replaced. The other problem may be the cable itself or the port on your phone. You can have Apple perform diagnostics on your phone for free.

Not strange at all. iOS 27 is demanding, and your battery was on the verge anyway.

Check your Battery Health settings to see that the things are not "Normal" anymore with your battery.

A new battery will be about $70-80 U.S. at the Apple Store / Genius Bar or an Authorized Apple Service Provider (AASP). The Genius Bar will require reservation. Most other shops will not.

You can find a lost of authorized service locations in your area using this link:

Have this exact issue right after ios 27 update. I also tried different cables but its not about cables. It actually charges but doesnt show the charging animation. If u leave it on charge and restart after a while it shows the real percentage. Also no problem with data transfer. Cables works just fine with data transfer. And it works normally with powerbank too , so it is a software issue that apple ignores for weeks lol. I dont know why it works just fine with powerbank but not with charging brick. I use original brick and cable and many se 2020 user experience this problem. Reminding you this started right after ios 27. It is not a battery issue , its almost brand new. i changed battery like 6 monhts ago. There is many .entries about this on reddit. I just did the last 27.0.1 update hoping it would fix it but its the same. HELP @apple

That is not unusual. Your battery was failing before the update where you also likely have the Service message listed next to the battery telling you it needs replaced. Any additional demands on a failing battery, including those placed on it from an update, is going to have unexpected results.

Think of your car battery, it may be working just fine when driving around in daylight, but once it gets dark and you need to place those additional demands on it or if it gets colder than usual overnight, it may not start in the morning or even hold a charge. Of course it is not because it was dark or cold that caused your battery to fail, it was because it needed to be replaced earlier.

I have the same issue. The phone starts charging suddenly after connecting to the charger but stops charging quickly. I tried to charge the phone using a laptop instead of a charging dock. The same thing happens. But the interesting thing is only charging stopped and phone not disconnected from laptop. Also, a normal 5A charger works. Only fast charging is not working. I'm pretty sure the problem is in the iOS software, not in the charging port.

I have the exact same problem! Since updating to iOS 27, the charging animation lasts a few seconds and then stops, even though the iPhone is charging. Worst than this, is the uncertanty in the battery percentage I have left, since it always display a random percentage... I've been through a whole day, with the iPhone displaying 4% battery... This is happening on an iPhone SE 2nd generation, with a very recent battery that had no problem on iOS 26

I am having same problems. Its only charging when I am attaching the lightning to usb c cable from the iPhone to MacBook. Its presumably charging at 5W but surprisingly it charged upto 80% from under 20% in few minutes. After 80% it slowed down possibly due to optimising battery tab being on. Its not charging with 35 w wall socket apple charger. It goes green for 2-3 seconds and then stops. My battery has 100% battery health so its not a battery issue.

Does the algorithm change with iOS updates?

Yes, Apple refines the algorithm as data is acquired from each specific model battery. It’s not a one size fits all. The algorithm is also a smart algorithm, meaning it learns about your specific battery, use conditions, storage conditions and modifies the charging to best adapt to the current battery conditions.

So, after an upgrade or update, charging and battery behavior may change. In general the algorithm becomes more accurate, law of large numbers. The more information and larger the sampling group the more accurate the results.
