Does anyone know how to take the results from one cell and send them to a cell in a different file?
Also, is there a comprehensive online guide or hardcopy guide on how to use numbers?

Two open Numbers spreadsheets. Copy the cell to the clipboard, and then paste that cell into the other spreadsheet using Edit Menu > Paste and Match Style.

If you're looking for a dynamic link, you can't.
You can easily copy cells/formulas from one document to another (as VikingOSX suggests), but Numbers does not allow for dynamic inking between different documents, only between sheets/tables within the same document.
