An unknown error occurred (9). 130A.0000 Apple Devices app on Windows 11

iPhone 17 Pro Error 9 (130A.0000) via Apple Devices App

I am requesting urgent technical assistance to recover my iPhone 17 Pro. After being transitioned from iTunes (which no longer manages iPhone devices) to the official Apple Devices app on Windows 11, I attempted to update my phone from iOS 27.0 to iOS 27.0.1.

During the process, the update failed and left my device completely stuck/unusable with the following error:

"An unknown error occurred (9). 130A.0000"

I have attempted extensive troubleshooting without success:

  • Changed USB ports directly on the motherboard and tried multiple USB-C cables (including official Apple cables).
  • Manually downloaded the official iOS 27.0.1 IPSW file and attempted to restore/update using the file directly in Apple Devices.
  • Restarted both the phone and Windows 11 host system multiple times.

The Apple Devices app repeatedly drops the connection at the same point and throws Error 9 (130A.0000).

Please advise on how to resolve this software conflict or restore my device.

Thank you

iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 27

Hi there

Please try this

  • Disable Antivirus/Firewall: Temporarily turn off third-party antivirus, VPN, or Windows Defender firewall settings, as they frequently block the data handshake during the verification phase.
  • Reinstall Apple Devices App: Uninstall the app completely, restart your PC, and reinstall it fresh from the Microsoft Store to ensure all low-level USB drivers and mobile device support services are fully functional.

Alternative PC or Environment

  • Use a Different Computer: Since you have already tested multiple cables and direct motherboard ports on your Windows 11 system, connect the iPhone 17 Pro to an entirely different computer (such as a Mac using Finder or another Windows PC) to isolate whether the host operating system's USB controller is dropping the connection.
  • DFU Mode Restore: Put your iPhone into DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode manually before launching the Apple Devices app, then select Restore instead of Update. Note that a DFU restore will wipe current device data and require a backup to restore your personal files.

I encountered the same issue and found this Reddit post, which resolved it for me.

What worked was completely uninstalling Apple Devices, rebooting the PC, and then installing iTunes. After that, I was able to restore the device successfully.

Just be patient with the restore process — it can take quite a while and may look like it’s stuck at certain points, but mine eventually completed successfully.

Hopefully this helps someone else running into the same issue.

You’ll find guidance for troubleshooting error #9 here:

If you see error 9, 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you continue to experience difficulties, you might be well advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively, if you have access to another Apple device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

No, I haven't solved this Error 9 problem using official methods. Since there are no Apple Stores near me (the nearest one is 2–3 countries away), I had to resolve the issue myself.

The solutions provided by Mittie12321 and LotusPilot aren't usable because iTunes no longer directly supports iPhone management on Windows. Ultimately, I was forced to flash my device using a third-party tool (3uTools) to get it working again.

It is extremely disappointing and unacceptable for a company like Apple to put consumers in a position where they have to rely on third-party software just to fix an update failure. Apple needs to fix the Apple Devices app and address this issue properly.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to a second computer (or a Mac) to attempt this on a different environment. I have to mention that last time at the ios 26 to ios 27 update (which i made with the good old iTunes), it worked like charm. Regarding the Apple Devices app on my Windows 11 system, I have already disabled security software and reinstalled the application, but the connection continues to drop at the exact same verification stage with Error 9 (130A.0000).

I have already tried putting the iPhone into DFU mode and attempting a full restore, but the process fails at the exact same point with Error 9 (130A.0000).

I have also disabled my firewall/antivirus and reinstalled the Apple Devices app, but the host connection continues to drop during verification. Since DFU restore on Windows 11 is not resolving the issue and the phone remains completely unusable.

I want to clarify that my main objective is to Update the device to fix this issue without wiping it. Wiping my iPhone via a DFU Restore and erasing all my data/content is not an acceptable solution for me.

Even when attempting the update option in DFU mode, as well as after disabling my firewall/antivirus and reinstalling the Apple Devices app on Windows 11, the process continues to fail at the verification phase with Error 9 (130A.0000).

Since the Apple Devices app repeatedly drops the update connection and leaves my phone unbootable, I need a clear solution.

Thanks.
