The fact that you have an “Add” button and timeline/slider underneath the image is particularly useful—it indicates that this isn't simply the normal Photos viewer. The application is doing something to the image, and the fine grid appears to be part of that application's viewing/editing interface.

The screenshot contains:

Black UI area → photograph with grid → black UI area

The grid is confined to the photograph/displayed-image area.

The absence of gridlines in the black areas strongly suggests that this is not a display-related issue. If the display itself were causing the pattern, the grid would typically be visible across the entire screen, including the black portions of the image.

To further investigate, please open the photo using the iOS Photos app and check whether the grid pattern is still visible when viewing the original image. If it only appears in certain apps or under specific viewing conditions, that would help determine whether the issue is related to the image itself, image processing, compression, or a third-party application rather than the display hardware.

Hi there

Please try this

  • Pinch to zoom: Play an affected video in your Photos app and pinch to zoom in slightly. You will notice the grid lines instantly disappear or shift. If it were a broken screen, the lines would stay permanently in the exact same spot on your display.
  • Send the video: Share the video to a computer or another phone. The grid lines will not be there, proving the file itself isn't damaged; your phone is just caching the playback render incorrectly (especially in 4K or HDR formats).

Yes, I can see the small gridlines in the image. However, these do not appear to be Apple's standard Camera Grid feature. The built-in Apple Camera grid is a much coarser 3×3 composition grid, designed to help with framing and alignment. What is visible in your image appears to be a much finer pattern, consisting of numerous small squares, which is not typical of the standard iPhone Camera app interface.

To better analyse what may be causing this phenomenon, could you please share the metadata of the photo or video? Information such as the device model, iOS version, camera settings, resolution, file format, whether the media was edited, and any EXIF metadata could provide valuable clues. If possible, sharing the original, unedited file would also help determine whether the grid pattern was introduced during image capture, post-processing, screen recording, display rendering, or by a third-party camera application.

With the metadata and original file details, we can perform a much more accurate analysis and narrow down the source of the issue.
