Charged €131 for Duolingo yearly subscription, can’t request a refund through Apple

Hi everyone,

I accidentally ended up subscribing to Duolingo after a free trial, and I was suddenly charged around €131 for a full year. I thought I would only be charged for one month after the free trial.

I cancelled the subscription immediately after noticing the charge, but now I can’t find the Duolingo purchase anymore in my Apple purchase history, so I’m unable to request a refund through Apple.

Does anyone know how I can still request a refund in this situation? I really can’t afford to lose €131, and I definitely didn’t intend to purchase a full-year subscription.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Commiserations on your plight !

Free trials need to be canceled at least 24 hours before expiry, if you don't want to be charged. There is generally a list of terms and conditions available to check what you may be responsible for, before enrolling.

For purchases that don't show up in the purchase history, it generally means these items are outside apple's own ecosystem. Apple provides an article : (link below):

About purchases not billed through the App Store or Apple In-App Purchase - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"If you paid for an app, a purchase within an app, or a subscription outside of Apple’s ecosystem, contact the developer for billing support or a refund. Apple is unable to provide support for these purchases."

There is much more info. in the article that may assist with contacting the developer about a refund.
