AirPods with the same problem? Or are AirPods selling more instead of honoring the warranty?

I have AirPods Pro 2nd- and 3rd-generation.

AirPods are listed under "Health and Fitness" and "Meet your new workout partners" on the Apple website.

Is it too much of a coincidence that both have the same issue? Or am I imagining things?

  • 3rd gen, under warranty, purchased on May 9, 2026, had issues from the beginning: disconnects, no charging, poor sound quality, and crackling. Apple did not replace it, but used Apple One instead. Genius claimed water damage.
  • 2nd gen wasn't working well, so I took it to the Apple Genius Bar. Afterward, the Genius Bar cleaned it; it worked for a couple of hours, and one side of the box never charged again. Back to the Genius Bar, who diagnosed water damage, which is not correct, as it was never exposed to water.

Even Apple, can make a product that has issues.
no need to be agressive.

I'm not being "aggressive." Neither is Johnathan. You asked me what I thought. I told you.

Sure, Apple has had the occasional hardware issue. But when they do, everyone knows about it. The trade press loves to find something negative about Apple. It would be all over the internet because it's great clickbait. And we see a ton of complaints here in the forums. In the case of AirPod Pros, there is no tsunami of complaints about them mysteriously ceasing to work and Apple telling people that it's liquid when they "know" it's not. But neither of those things is true.

You've also got two people (again, not a huge sample size) telling you they've owned both models and never had a problem. Is it coincidence that we got the only good ones?

It seems as if you came here to find people who validate you, rather than genuinely asking questions. I'm sorry it upsets you but I can't do that.

Ha! I've been eligible to collect Social Security for a couple of years now. My first Apple computer was a IIe. But what does age have to do with this?

Just made me think it might be a problem I can present to Apple for improvement.

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however let them know your thoughts here:

So, is it a design defect?
Why are we paying for a design failure?

Where did I suggest that? A design defect would affect everyone (or almost everyone) who bought them. This is not a rampant problem. Note that AirPods Pro are not waterproof, only water-resistant.

Just asking, Idris...
What do you think?

The common factor here is you. I think you got them wet. However, n=2 is not a large sample size, so perhaps I'm wrong and you just got unlucky and got two defective sets.

You were, most probably, not born when I bought my first Apple computer.

And since, I have been a fan, supporter and critic, depending on the occasion.

I only use Apple products, and still have and use many vintage ones too. I gift Apple products.

However, loving the brand does not make me blind, incapable of seeing the issues, or conspiratorial.

At the Genius Bar, I heard similar conversations. I was there 4 times for about an hour each. So, in our planetary location with hot, humid weather 10 months a year, it appears to be an issue.

I am, certainly not, in need of yours or anybody's validation. Sorry, you're not that important.

This is a comment for someone at Apple to read and consider escalating to make improvements.

And with this, I close this conversation. Good luck!
