M3 Max MacBook Pro Auto-Restarts (Kernel Panic) when pasting or trying to install new app from App Store – Even After Clean OS Reinstall

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing an immediate system auto-restart (hard crash / kernel panic) on my M3 Max MacBook Prowhenever I attempt to use the copy function (Command + C or via menu). [1]

Before this started happening, ReportCrash was constantly pinning the CPU to maximum. Suspecting a deep software or clipboard corrupt glitch, I performed a complete, clean reinstallation of the operating system. Unfortunately, the exact same issue persists on a fresh OS install with zero third-party apps installed. [1]

Current Behavior:

  • Highlighting text and pressing Command + C results in an immediate hard lockup followed by an automatic reboot.
  • The issue occurs even with all external devices, hubs, and chargers disconnected.
  • The Issue: attempting to paste causes the system to lock up or immediately auto-restart.
  • Troubleshooting Already Done:
    • Full macOS reinstall (Issue persists on a fresh OS).
    • Checked ReportCrash logs prior to reinstalling.
    • Disconnected all external peripherals and USB-C hubs (still crashes using built-in keyboard/trackpad).

Because the M3 Max features a highly integrated Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) where the CPU, GPU, and RAM share individual memory controllers on the same silicon fabric, I am highly suspecting a hardware-level failure. Specifically, a localized failure in a hardware memory sector or a power-delivery component that undergoes a critical voltage drop when the system attempts to write to the system clipboard. [1, 2]

Has anyone with an M-series Max chip experienced a localized hardware panic tied strictly to memory/clipboard processes? Are there specific Apple Diagnostics codes I should watch out for that highlight an M3 Max SoC failure?

Thank you for your help.
