Since your Epson SX535WD still prints successfully over Wi-Fi, its network connection appears to be working. However, macOS handles printing and scanning separately, so it's possible for printing to work while scanning does not. The SX535WD is an older model, and its original scanning software or drivers may no longer be fully compatible with macOS 27.
I would suggest trying the following:
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your Epson printer, and check whether an Open Scanner option is available.
- As WheelieNick has mentioned: Open Apple's Image Capture application (located in Applications > Utilities). Check whether your Epson scanner appears under Devices or Shared. If it does, try scanning directly from Image Capture.
- If the scanner isn't detected, restart both your Mac and Epson printer, then check again.
- Visit the Epson SX535WD support page and look for the ICA Scanner Driver for Image Capture (version 5.8.23). This driver may allow macOS to recognize the scanner without relying on Epson's original scanning application. However, compatibility with macOS 27 is not guaranteed. Check the supported macOS versions before installing it. I also noted that this particular printer was designed to be sold in Europe. Not sure that would or should be an issue.
- If scanning still doesn't work, consider removing the Epson printer from Printers & Scanners and adding it again. When adding it, check which driver macOS selects and whether scanning functionality becomes available. Note that removing the printer will also remove its existing print queue.
If none of these steps resolves the problem, it's possible that Epson's scanning drivers are no longer compatible with macOS 27, even though printing continues to work.
