iPad 9th generation 64 GB on ipad os 27 won’t charge

My ipad 9th gen won’t charge and it has been connected to the power cables provided. I tried a diffrent apple charger, still nothing. It is on dead battery screen and says charging even though it’s been connected 1+ hours to the charger. Any fixes? Update: The same charger worked fine on my iPhone 7.

There have been many reports of charging issues occurring with iPad9 subsequent to updating to iPadOS 27/27.0.1. This issue is principally encountered if the iPad is used right up to the point of its battery being near or fully exhausted prior to recharging.

If the iPad is recharged prior to a low battery state, the iPad should charge normally when connected to a compatible Power Adapter rated at 12W (i.e. 2.4A @5V) or greater. If instead an iPad9 has been permitted to fully discharge (as you illustrate), allow the iPad to charge undisturbed and unused for at least 24hrs. Reports indicate that the iPad will initially trickle-charge until such time as the battery sufficiently recovers - at which time normal charging behaviour should be restored.

Otherwise, if normal charging cannot be restored, you would be well advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to hands-on test and assess your iPad:

In addition, for those affected by this specific issue, it would be in your best interest to submit a Bug Report via Apple's Product Feedback portal - as until Apple receives a sufficient volume of reports, it may not assign resources to investigate and resolve the issue. For iPad and iPadOS:

When submitting a report, ensure that you include details of your iPad model and the installed version of iPadOS within the body pf the report. Don't rely on the pick-list alone as this may not include the most recent version of iPadOS.

You are unlikely to receive a personal reply, however, it is our understanding that all feedback is logged, analysed and forwarded to the appropriate team(s).

You're very welcome. I'm delighted that you have managed to restore normal charging behaviour.

To avoid repetition of the issue, recharge the iPad before the battery charge falls too low. For Li-ion batteries, there is no benefit whatsoever in running the battery to a low state of charge - as this risks unrecoverable failure of battery if the battery is permitted to remain in a low-charge state.

For optimal battery performance, you should recharge the battery whenever the opportunity arises. Using the iPad whilst connected to external power also reduces charge-cycles - and in so doing ultimately extends useful the battery lifespan.
