My understand is Apple cannot tell you who an iPhone is carrier locked to. But this link may help you identify the phone is locked to via its IMEI number --> https://imeicheck.com/

This leads me to wonder if you purchased a used iPhone, which is carrier locked? Be advised that ONLY the carrier the phone is locked to can unlock it. And if you are NOT their customer, especially if any money is owed on it's contract, they are under no obligation to unlock it for you.

No.

Did you buy a used phone from someone? In that case, even if you knew which carrier the phone was locked to, you would need to contact the carrier to ask them to unlock the phone.

In most cases, the carrier will refuse to do this because the phone has been reported as stolen, or the previous owner ran up a large billl and refused to pay.

If you did buy a used phone, your best bet would be to return it for a refund.
