Pencil won’t connect after iOS update

My 1st Gen pencil won’t connect to my iPad. I have “forgotten” it from Bluetooth settings and reset my network settings. It is charged but is not visible in “other devices” when I try to add it via Bluetooth and nothing happens when I plug it into the iPad to connect. It is visible as a Bluetooth device on other devices such as my phone and laptop but won’t show up on my iPad at all. I have replaced the nib. I am all out of ideas and it is driving me mad! Any thoughts?
