We are seeing references to the com.apple.wallpaper.caches folder on the Apple Sequoia Community Forums and want to know whether it's safe to clear the 1.7 GB of cached data on your Mac M2.
The important thing is that wallpaper cache locations can vary between macOS versions, so I want to make sure we are targeting the correct folder before deleting anything.
The reported location is:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.wallpaper.agent/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.wallpaper.caches
This location has been associated with Sequoia 15, although cache behaviour can vary between releases.
Could you confirm the exact macOS version shown under Apple menu >> About This Mac?
For example, is it macOS Sequoia 15.7.2 or macOS Tahoe 26.1?
Once confirmed, we can walk you through safely clearing the 1.7 GB cache without disturbing your wallpaper settings or personal photos.
At least in macOS 27 wallpapers are at '~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.wallpaper'.
You might just brutally in the Finder delete them from that folder but a more elegant way is to open System Settings > Wallpaper and look for wallpapers which have no downward arrow, click three dots ... > Remove Download.
