Are my Apple EarPods (USB-C) counterfeit?

I bought supposedly genuine Apple EarPods (USB-C) from a third-party seller. The packaging was sealed, but when I connected them to my MacBook Air, they were identified as "AB13X USB Audio".

System Information shows:

  • Manufacturer: Generic
  • Serial Number: 20***016
  • USB Vendor ID: 0x001F
  • USB Product ID: 0x0B21
  • USB Product Version: 0x0100

These details seem unusual for a genuine Apple product.

The seller has offered a refund, but I'd like to confirm whether these are actually counterfeit.

Can anyone with genuine USB-C EarPods confirm what their Mac reports under System Information -> USB?

The only way to be certain that you have a genuine Apple product is to purchase directly from Apple or an Authorised Apple Retailer.

While not suggesting that the USB-C EarPods in you possession are genuine or not, consider that counterfeit goods are increasingly sophisticated - with packaging and device details that accurately replicate the genuine item. As such, on the basis of the information that you list here (now redacted by the site Moderator), it is impossible to verify or confirm provenance or authenticity.
