iPad Pro: iPhone apps rotate 90 degrees in Windowed Apps mode on iPadOS 27.2

iPadOS 27.2 bug – iPhone apps rotated 90 degrees in Windowed Apps mode

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem with my iPad Pro after updating to iPadOS 27.2.

Device: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation, 2022)

Chip: Apple M2

Model number: MP243FD/A

Storage: 1 TB

Operating system: iPadOS 27.2

The problem affects applications originally designed for iPhone, such as Tinder, Alwin and Suno.

When these applications are opened in Windowed Apps mode, their entire content is rotated by 90 degrees. The content remains incorrectly rotated regardless of the orientation of the application window.

However, when I switch to iPhone compatibility mode, the applications display correctly and respond normally when I rotate the iPad.

Other applications, such as Safari, YouTube, Lidl and Pillow, work correctly.

The problem started immediately after updating to iPadOS 27.2.

I have already restarted the iPad and reset all settings, but the problem remains.

This appears to be a possible iPadOS bug related to screen orientation handling for iPhone-only applications in Windowed Apps mode.

My questions:

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Is this a known iPadOS 27.2 issue?

Is there a workaround?

Can we expect Apple to fix this in a future software update?

Thank you for your help.

I have myself noted that some Apps, designed for iPhone, are not presented as expected under iPadOS 27.x. For Apps exhibiting issues that I have encountered, the problem has not been confined to iPadOS 27.2 - but has be been apparent in iPadOS 27/27.0.1/27.2.

If the issue affects some Apps and not others, this might suggest that the screen rotation problem is not necessarily a problem with iPadOS; OS bugs will generally impact all Apps.

App-specific bugs should be reported to the respective App Developer - as Apps may need to be updated to maintain full compatibility:

How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

If you positively identify an OS bug, it would be in your own best interest to submit a Bug Report to Apple via its Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

When submitting your Bug Report, please ensure that you include details of your iPad model and installed version of iPadOS within the body-text of your report along with details of the problem. Do not rely upon the pick-list - as this rarely includes the current version of iPadOS.

Every Bug Report counts. Unless reports are submitted (with adequate detail), Apple may not assign resources to investigate and correct the issue.

In addition [i.e., not as a substitute] to submitting a Bug Report, you might also consider seeking assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page; you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:
