I purchased a new mac mini with Golden Gate 27. I'm having trouble importing music from a cd via an external cd drive to Apple music. Do I need a specialty app? Or a specialty cd drive? Every time I attempt I get the error message, "Error occurred while converting the file. The required file cannot be found." I was able to import the music via Audacity but it seems a lot of effort for what should be a simple task.

Is that a commercial CD or one that was made on a PC and/or with third-party software…?
If it is a home made CD, then it could be in a format that is not compatible for Import into macOS Music.
I changed the settings to Apple Lossless Encoder and checkd "use error correction ..." then quit Apple Music and started it back up. I then attempted to import a CD and it starts on the first tune on the CD and after a minute or so ejects the CD drive an gives the same error as before, "Error occurred while converting the file. The required file cannot be found."

Perform a New Sign In:
"Error occurred while converting the file. The required file cannot be found."
It may be a matter of piracy, but one thing that can occur is your Music App on your Mac getting stalled in a playback loop. As for being relevant to this stall, it may be in a loop with syncing with Apple's server to obtain content. See my User tip: Fixing the Music App Stalled in a “Playing Next Loop" - User Tip

Hi,
To fix a CD import error in Apple Music on your Mac mini, allow the Music app permission to access removable volumes under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders.
System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders under Music it says "Full Disk Access", no reference to "removable volumes"
Try "Accessories," also under Privacy & Security, near the bottom:
no reference to "accessories" under security.
These are all standard commercial music CD's. I've tried three different ones and get the same error.
Hmm....
Go to Music > Settings... > Files tab > click Import Settings... and test the following settings.
Try cleaning the CDs and Lens in the drive.
Then if that doesn’t help, try a different drive.
I'm gonna buy a new external CD drive. Although, as I mentioned above, I was able to drag the files from the cd to the audacity app and import the songs that way with suggests the drive works ...
