AC adapter/charger for new iPod touch.

I'm about to order one of the new iPod touches with the HD video camera and face time. I noticed it doesn't come with an AC adapter.

Before I go BUY one, can I use the AC adapter that came with my ipad? Or will that one fry it?

Or will I have to get a new AC adapter for this new iPod touch?

I don't have a laptop, and will be traveling soon, so I won't be able to charge he iPod thru USB computer hook up.

Not necessarily. I have a third-party AC charger that works with my 5th gen iPod. The AC charger connector part looks identical to the connector that came with my iPod Touch. However, when I plug it into the Touch, it does fit, and the Touch does turn on, but then a message comes up saying this device is not compatible with this accessory. It also shows a yellow warning triangle, but since it doesn't even attempt to charge, I don't think it does any damage.

I think we are talking about Apple wall chargers here.

I have 2 Apple chargers and they both work on all my iPods...

1. I purchased the *Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapter* charger kit (Mine also came with the 30 pin USB cable at the time which was a great deal. Now I see they have removed that cable from the kit as I thought it was a mistake when I bought it)

*10W USB Power Adapter*
Model Number A1357
Input 100-240V
Output 5.1V

2. This wall charger came in the *Apple Composite AV Cable* video kit

*iPod USB Power Adapter*
Model Number A1205
Input 100-240V
Output 5V

What Apple Wall Charger model numbers do the rest of you have?

Assuming it uses the same docking connector you should be able to use any iPod charger as well as a USB charging cable.

Maybe.... as long as it's not an older charger that supplies the higher Firewire voltage. The Docking connector had provisions for BOTH USB and Firewire charging (using different pins).

A lot of third-party chargers sold until last year supplied only the Firewire voltages (something like 8 to 30 volts) and not the well regulated USB 5.0 volts.

Apple had warned of the dropping of iPod Firewire charging for a couple of years, but when they actually dropped it last year, a lot of third-party manufacturers were STILL unprepared.

My original reply and question was motivated by the fact that I have two third-party USB chargers that plug into an AC outlet and has a USB plug-in. The output stated on the back of one is 5V,1A and the other is 5V,500mA. I was wondering if either one could be safely used to charge the 4th gen. iPod Touch that I'm expecting to arrive soon. It appears from the experience of others in this thread that the charger with the 1 amp current would probably work better than the 500mA current. I was more concerned about overpowering the battery and burning it up, but it doesn't seem like that is likely.
