My cheek/face is hanging up my calls

HI...I have oddest question about the iphone 4 and i dont know if i can explain it right but here goes...

When i'm on a call, I sometimes accidently hangup, put call on hold, activate/deactivate speaker etc...Basically my "face" is in contact with the touch screen as im talking and its hitting the "buttons"

What am i doing wrong?

I had a 2G prior to this and never has this problem.

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Exactly. This is a huge ... problem that is not related to the proximity sensor ... nor was it solved with IOS 4.1.

*Talking with the iPhone 4 on my shoulder has resulted in many more calls being dropped (hung up), than I've ever lost due to AT&T*. During shoulder cradled calls, the touch screen options also result in "Cheek Dialing" ... which is not to be confused with "Butt Dialing."

What's needed is a feature (default or preference setting) that LOCKS the touch sensitive screen during a call, but allows you to unlock it to use the speakerphone or other touch-sensitive features.
