iPhone "unable to join network" in Wifi

I get this message when trying to join my own network (or any other free network). Bluetooth works fine. I have tried resetting Network settings.

iPhone, iPhone OS 3.0, iTunes 9.2.1

I also got wifi issues after newest upgrade (4.1), my iPhone 3G does found different spots, secured and non-secured, but it can't connect to them. I tried with different a-link, buffalo, telewell wlan stations .. Atleast 3G and Bluetooth works well

I've also tried boot the phone, boot the network settings, restore it, dfu mode .. so on, I'm pretty much out of tricks now, nothing seems to help ..

Should I just wait for the next update and hope it will solve the problem? Does anybody even know the real problem here, broken hardware after upgrade, something else?

I received my new phone, as promised by Apple, last evening. I've restored my settings, my 1,100 songs, 41 aps, etc. and the WiFi connection is working beautifully. Apparently the Genius was correct - it was a hardware issue. Thanks to Apple for their generous replacement of my phone - even when out of warranty.

I'm starting to think that the ios4 update created a hardware problem; and the new replacement phones fix the issue. How else can you explain all the 3GSs that worked perfectly just +prior to updating+ to ios4?

I am wondering too. See my post above.

The Genius that worked with me thought that may the actual installation of 4 did something, not necessarily the 4 iOS itself, that is as the install was happening, something did not get installed right.

If I'd dropped my phone, I would say, yep, maybe the antenna connection broke, but I did not. But in my case the did replace the phone, being just out of warranty a few days and having been looked at a few days before it went out of warranty for another problem.

An Update on my situation. I've managed to maintain a connection 99% of the time since my last post (12th Sept). I've had the occasional drop off and had to re-enter the password but I've at least managed to get the connection pretty much straight back. However, on the odd occasion I still get prompted to enter my password, even whilst I'm browsing the net - bizarre. Anyone thats now got a connection get this at all?

Similar to Andy Thomas' post, I also replied to Applecare on such issue - hopefully something good will come out of it.

Since I changed my wireless channel on my router (Airport) I've had a rock solid wifi connection with no issues on my 3GS. I'm convinced that it was a clash with a neighbours channel plus a fault in the iPhone that can't handle this where my other devices can.

I've had no disconnects since and at no time has it asked for my password again. In fact I was so happy with the situation I committed to finally buying an iPhone4, and again I've had a rock solid connection with that as well.

If you haven't tried the "change channel" thing then I highly recommend giving it a go.

I will be passing this info up to the chap at AppleCare who contacted me in the hope that it may help them narrow it down

Just to add my 2 cents. My Iphone also fails to connect to network after a couple of days. I've changed the network mode, channel width and standard channel. It will still only hold the connection for a couple of days. The most success I've had is changing the standard channel. The Iphone will now hold a connection for about 4 days. It's very maddening to say the least.

But this problem is widespread. My girlfriend just bought a Macbook pro and she is having the same problem. Also, one of her friends has a new Macbook, same problem. For fun Google Ipad "unable to connect to network", guess what, same problems there.

This is definitely an Apple problem. Both routers, mine and my girlfriends are less than a year old, and are fully up to date.

Hi Guys, I do not think I have a problem, but still have a question.
reading this thread I noticed some advice was given to change APN on the cellular network.

I used to have a 2g iPhone and this option was shown. Now I have a 3GS version 4,1 and I couldn't find the option of APN.
On the tab settings/general/network it shows only cellular data on or off.
Is this ok?

I Know This Topic Has Already Been Answered,But I Just Wanna Add This. For Me,I Live In The Country And Then There`s A Small Rural Town 7 Miles Away,Killbuck,Ohio.Anyways,When I Go Down There To Visit,And Im Staying Over At A House And There Are Say,4 Networks Available In The Neighborhood And You Are At Your At Where Your Staying In Town Like A Relatives To Visit And You Try To Connect To There Neighbors WI-FI,It Say Something Like "Unable To Join (WIFINAME)".It`s Usally Because Your iPhone Can Pickup Only Enough To Show That It`s Available In The Area.
