Itunes 10 and Tiger 10.4.11

Just downloaded iTunes 10 and it says it works with 10.5 upwards only but the website says:

Macintosh Software
Mac OS X version 10.4.11 or later; Mac OS X version 10.5 or later is required to play an iTunes LP or iTunes Extras
QuickTime 7.6 or later
Support for HE-AAC requires QuickTime 7.6.4 and Mac OS X version 10.5 or later
Safari 4.0.3 or later
200MB of available disk space

Anyone else had this problem?

Powerbook 15 G4, Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I've fought with many over the years that claimed "Apple is no match for PC", and I stuck to my grounds on how reliable Apple WAS.. After many years of being a loyal supporter and customer (made a huge switch from PC to Mac beginning college), I now feel I've had the foundation knocked out beneath my feet. What was once a sturdy allie to me, has now become my enemy.. I got the 3GS awhile back (right before 4 was released, so not too long ago) and just because I have a 4 year old laptop that in MY EYES works just fine, I can't update my phone.. Instead I get to watch my wife use her new update on her 3GS that she was able to get on a WINDOWS LAPTOP OLDER THAN MY MAC!!!!!!... CHECKMATE for PC!..

Everything I stood for as a Mac user has now fallen by the betrayal of the one company I fought for. Now most would say I'm over exaggerating.. But when you call support and all they can do is pitch more sales for LEOPARD OR LION (which won't work on my laptop anyway I'm sure, even if it did I cant afford it) it's pretty much a slap in the face.. The only other option would be to fork over for a new laptop and that for sure isn't happening for a while, if your happy with what you got why replace it?.. I bought the phone before all this bull for iPhone 4s where it says the system requirements on back. Support told one man that he should've read the box first before purchase, I DIDN'T HAVE THAT OPTION!..

If they don't patch it soon to where it will work for the ones who've stuck with them all these years, Id be just fine going back to the cheap ol PC that is apparently more reliable NOW.. Some ask, "why not just stick with the old update?".. Because before too long all the apps will become only supportive for IOS 5 and obsolete for anything later than that!!.. Then what do you have? A smart phone that has nothing left to be smart about, just a regular cell.. Scores tied PC 1 - MAC 1.. Its up to you Apple, fix it and get back in the game or fall.. Steve Jobs wouldn't have settled for this..

Why not?

If your computer is only 4 years old, it should run Snow Leopard 10.6 ($29) and Lion 10.7 ($29) just fine.

The fact that Apple will not allow those of us with an older OS run the new iTunes so we can get the most our of our BRAND NEW iPhones, etc. is a disgrace. I have been a faithful Apple customer for many years (since before they were popular) and this is very disappointing. Looks like my new laptop will have to be Windows-based, just so I can enjoy the full use of my new Apple products. Sickening.

Thanks robotman and davidk for understanding my rant. I think the both of you said it best. There is no need in this, the one thing that made apple reliable and outstanding to me is the fact that you were never outdated with their product until now (or unless your rockin the Macintosh SE/30 lol).. even the old pastel clam shell was still reliable. On another note, I thought I found a way to stay true to my powerbook but sneak past the bull.. Went to the Mac Store to discuss and confirm my thoughts with one of the "Geniuses", only to find out they're more like the class clown.. Asked if I could update to IOS 5 on my wifes PC, and switch back to iTunes 9 on my laptop to sync my apps and music back on.. First is was a reply in a joking fashion, "sure you can do that, or you can just get a new laptop today".. Me: "nooooo, student loans and bills are killing me right now. can hardly afford to eat it seems like. lol".. Employee: "Understand that. yea you can do that no problem, just might be a little glitchy on the sync.".. Me: "I can live with that! thanks! 😀"..

Just tried it out today.. EPIC FAIL.. now i got to back date some how and live with the old OS i guess.. Plus my wifes phone has been bugging out and while we were there she tried to have it fixed, they restarted her phone (like she didn't try that first?) then said come back in an hour.. figured that there had to be some reasoning behind it so we did, hour later we come back. Employee: "didn't fix it?". Wife: "No, still slow and lagging bad". Employee took it back and said he'd be back in 10 minutes, 45 minutes later we ask the girl behind the desk if she knows what happend with her phone. "Oh he didn't give it back yet?.. Well let me check on that.".... Turns out it was laying on the desk the whole time and the guy never brought it back like he said he would.. still doesn't work right.

I give up..

My entire faith and trust in apple as a company as been ruined. Cannot believe that they are trying to force all of us to purchase new operating systems to use their new products. Wish I would have found out before I upgrade my iphone to the new one today...will be returning it tomorrow. Sad that PC users are all laughing in our faces right now at the abuse that apple is putting us through...and for what reason? So you can make 30 dollars of each one of us?

I agree with you. It seems the reason why Apple is making cheap OS upgrades is because they are forcing us to upgrade (with iTunes or iCloud, for example) or stop using their "services". Some years ago, it was rather the opposite, where one had the choice to upgrade or not, but with mor eexpensive upgrades. Perhaps Apple have seen not enough people buying OS when it was expensive and have simply changed their strategy (or may I say "tragedy" instead)?

I own pretty much everything apple. This infuriates me as I am a graphic designer/web designer and apple products are ahead in that department. And yet my person computer the G4 iBook is faster then my newer models and I cannot get iTunes on the 10.4.11 OSX.

I'm not changing OS's because these knuckleheads at apple won't make previous versions available. Their systems are already dear enough. Like, I bought an iPhone 4 and not even a few months later out came the 4S. I am not updating so soon, screw them.

I ended up getting rid of my iPad because I needed flash so I bought a Tablet which does everything apple does with the iPad but more, and it has flash.

Seriously, I don't understand this ... I too will abort ALL my apple equipment bar what I use for work. I am sick of it!

I had no idea this many people are in the same boat as I. Apparrantly Apple doesn't either, but wait, that's not possible, this is their website...right? Surely they are working feverishly to help their loyal customers, those who have spent their hard earned last pennies (o.k. Benjamin's) to get a Mac. Surely someone there cares about more than just the rising stock values, and remembers what got them (who got them) where they are today? Hello????
