Custom Pages Template for iPad

Does anyone know, can you create your own custom Pages Templates for use on the iPad? Or, are you limited to just the templates that come with iPad version of Pages?

I don't know of a way to add a template to the template selection list. But you can use a template in this manner.

Create a template in Pages '09.
Connect your iPad to your computer.
Select the iPad icon on the left side of iTunes.
Select the Apps tab and scroll down to File Sharing.
Select Pages.
Click on Add...
Go to your root folder and then go navigate to <Root>->Library->Application Support->iWork->Pages->Templates->My Templates and select the template you wish to use.
(iPad will update when the file is selected)
Start Pages on iPad
Select the folder in the top right side of the My Documents window
Select your template (you'll receive a warning about some unsupported things in the document but placeholders still work).
Make your changes and rename the pages document.

Each time you wish to reuse the template go to the folder and reimport it. Maybe somebody else knows how to add it to the template selection. If not maybe they'll add this later.

Hope this helps.

I too am a PC-user with an iPad. I have created templates in Word 2007 which are forms with fill-in fields and sections for text, such as fax headers, letters, and legal documents. I don't know whether I can import these into the iPad somehow and maintain the form fields, or if I can create them in an application on the iPad. I have Documets To Go and QuickOffice which I use to create Word 2007 compatible documents, although I haven't tried Pages. If anyone could help I'd be grateful.

Here is what I have found:

I opened one of my Pages templates on my Mac and saved it as a template up to my iDisc. This is just easier than doing the iTunes file sharing method but there's no reason this wouldn't work that way too.

I then opened the template on my iPad. All of the formatting and graphics stayed the same. All of the merge fields are there though they do not have any merge functionality that I can see.

All of the styles imported and are usable in the iPad version although the default styles are there as well which is annoying.

Though you cannot add your own templates to the default list (as far as I can tell) you can get the template in the "my Documents" page and then duplicate it ad nauseum.

I specifically used one of the fonts that already existed in the iPad Pages version so I don't know if using a non native font will cause the template to behave badly but I suspect the answer is yes.

First, create a template on your word processor first (Pages, Word, etc). That's the part I'm sure you know.

To put the newly created template on your iPad, you must first connect your iPad to iTunes. Under the iPad's menu, choose the "apps" tab. Scroll all the way down and find the "File Sharing" section where the Pages app resides. To the right you will find "Pages Documents." There is an add button. This is where you can load your template to your iPad.

The easiest thing I have found is:

Create a document on the iPad;

save it in a folder called "my templates" or whatever;

Then when you want to create another document based on your template:

hold your finger on it until it 'wiggles';

make sure it is 'selected' with a colored border around it by touching the wiggling document (if it isn't already selected);

click on the + sign on the upper left-hand corner and it will create a copy of the template ready for editing; and

if you are organizational freak, drag the copy of the template into the final location of the document you are about to write, so as to not confuse it as the original template.

Hope that helps.
